We all have friends who want to try SUP. We run into people on the water who say “That looks fun!” or “Is that hard to do?” or the typical “Isn’t it cold?” Now there is a way for you to share your love for SUP without your $2k race board bumping into the dock as you stand nervously on the shore. Send them to Gorge Performance for a stand up paddle lesson. The Gorge Crew has been busy this spring perfecting their techniques and becoming certified ASI instructors.
Classes are taught in a fun, relaxed atmosphere with three different class options. Weekly Intro to SUP Basics will be hosted at Sellwood Park every Tuesday and Wednesday evening. No experience is necessary to take this 90 minute class and we provide all equipment on the banks of the Willamette. Reservation are required and can be made at Gorge Performance.
Private individual or group lessons are also available. Private lessons are tailored to your specific needs ranging from basic SUP instruction through advance stroke and racing techniques. We can design a private lesson for family, group or corporate outings as well. Just picture Steve from accounting or your Uncle Andy trying a step back pivot turn (cue “Wipeout” by the Surfaris.)
The third option is the Tour de Ross Island. This 1.5-2 hour class is designed for those who may have tried SUP before but haven’t ventured around RI on their own yet. It is a nice 4.5 mile route departing from Willamette Park that promises great views of both our beloved city and nature. If you just can’t visit the Pittock Mansion again or you have all the hemp bracelets you need from the Saturday Market why not try the Tour De Ross Island with your next out of town guests.
More information about SUP lessons is available at the Gorge Performance Website or by calling 503-246-6646.
