2014 Willamette SUP Cup
We had great racing in some very challenging river conditions at the 2014 W'SUP Cup! The sun was out most of the time, but the so was the current. And the wind. Ouch! To our podium finishers, and to EVERYONE who took the challenge yesterday, we congratulate you!
Reults are posted.
Photos are posted to both Facebook and Flickr.
Registration is OPEN for our Rose City SUP Classic on June 8th!
The event takes place at George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Please note that this is a public park and we are permitted for exclusive use of the park. BE CONSIDERATE of other park goers, especially with our very large toys. See the marked up aerial map to the right for a diagram of the venue. Click for driving directions.
RACE COURSES & CATEGORIES
Open Race 6.7-mile Long Course
At this distance we'll award trophies to the top 3 finishers* to the following categories:
Men 14'0: 17 and Under, 18-49 and 50+
Men 12'6: 17 and Under, 18-49 and 50+
Women 14'0 17 and Under, 18-49 and 50+
Women 12'6: 17 and Under, 18-49 and 50+
The category board lengths represent the maximum allowable length for that class. You are free to race a 12'0 board, or even a 10' surfboard, in the 12'6 category.
Rec. Race 4.3-mile Course
At this distance trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers to the following categories:
Men: 17 and Under, 18-49 and 50+
Women: 17 and Under, 18-49 and 50+
There are no board restrictions in the Rec. Race cagegory, so race whacha got! Surfboards, inflatables, touring boards, it's all OK. But please note, the Rec Race is intended for people new(ish) to racing. If you already have a few races under your belt, please consider stepping up, 'er standing up, to the 6-mile course. Being "out of shape" isn't a reason to sandbag the Rec Race on your 14' carbon race board. ;-)
Youth Race 2-mile Course
This is a race for brave 11-14 yrs olds who are ready to go long and strong! The Youth course is the first 2-mile leg of the Open Long Course (south to the island and back).
Only experienced paddlers, please! It's ok if an adult wants to accompany their young paddler as a precaution, but youth racers are required to complete the distance on their own. We'll have a true micro-course Kid's Race at our Rose City SUP Classic event on June 8th.

9:30 Skippers meeting
10:00 Racing starts
12:00 Lunch and Awards
Board Rentals: We do have rental boards and race "demo" boards available to rent for the race. Supply is limited (especially the demos) so call well in advance to reserve a board. 503-246-6646.
Invasive Species permits are required by law in Oregon. We won't be checking, but the USCG is aware of our event and may surprise us with a social call, so let's all be compliant. We'll have permits for sale on site or anytime at the shop. $7 for 2014, or $13 thru 2015.
PFDs are required and must be worn! We recommend the belt style PFDs for racing. PFDs are not allowed to be strapped to your board, they must be worn (insurance requires it!).
