Your surfboard is more than a surfboard — it’s also a potential hazard, that is, if you’re not wearing a leash. Surfboard leashes keep you as well as others safe in the water. Leash sizes range anywhere from 5.5 feet to 10 feet, and the rule of thumb is: match your leash size to your board size. Got an 8 footer? Grab an 8-foot leash. Keep in mind that, besides sizes, leashes come in different thicknesses to accommodate wave conditions. Comp leashes, like the Pro-Lite Comp 6.0 Surfboard Leash, are typically made for small surf. Whereas the Dakine Kanui Big Wave Leash lives up to its name, and you’ll notice the cord is a lot thicker to handle thick waves.
