  • Firewire Velvet Hour 9'3 Thunderbolt Silver Lavender

Velvet hour to me is the magic hour. Being in the water from sunset to dark is my favorite time when the sky is colorful evokes a feeling that's hard to explain. I chose this name for the lavender and blush boards as it pulls from the soft and vibrant hues of sunset in Malibu. These boards are also logs which is perfect for the all kinds of surf. This log is a classic Australian style involvement log design made popular in the late 60s in Australia before the transition era. Its wide point is slotted back from the center point making for a wider tail area pushing the effective volume to the rear of the board. The wider tail helps create a lift for nose riding when you're in the pocket and it's got a narrow nose profile for control in steep tight pockets when you're tip riding. It also has a concave to create that extra lift for nose riding. When you combine all these design elements you get a board that nose rides seamlessly in the pocket and then with that wide point back, creates a pivot point which allows a board to be super maneuverable. • Bing Pintail Lightweight Type II 9'0 reverse tint turquoise

"When I designed the current PTLW in 2001 I focused on what was currently trending at the time, more nose rocker, and a wider nose. With the redesigned Pintail Lightweight Type 2 I've revisited the original 60's version's semi-pig outline, flatter nose rocker, and a tail that is a more pronounced pintail as opposed to a round pin. I've been making the 2001 version for the last 20 years, and after a year of experimentation and refinement I've decided the model needed to be permanently updated. The new Type 2 is the result of feedback from my team riders as well as my own experiences on this new model. The difference in the way the new Type 2 version surfs vs the older version is apparent immediately and takes this proven design to a whole new level. By having the hips "wide-point back" the board becomes much more responsive, or sensitive, which allows for quicker rail to rail response and the ability to make minor adjustments and finesse your positioning. The flatter nose rocker makes for a 'loggy-type glide' and allows for longer tip time. The redesigned outline combined with the rocker adjustment makes for a quicker setup enabling better positioning, which translates to longer nose rides. The tail rocker of both versions is similar, but the Type 2 has more release, or curve, on the bottom to compliment the more responsive outline. This minor but important revision to the rocker makes the more defined Pintail feel freer and eliminates any stiffness. The Pintail Lightweight Type 2 outline and the defined hard edge on the tail gives this model the ability to create speed and get around critical sections, making it ideal for point breaks or for whenever the waves are bigger or hollower." The new Pintail Lightweight Type 2 lives up to its reputation as an all-around functional design for all types of surf that excels in medium to head high waves at both point and beachbreaks." - Matt Calvani Learn More

Longboards

A longboard, traditionally known as a "log", can turn a tiny-wave summer day into a magical surf sesh. Many a longboard remind us of vintage postcards featuring a sun-kissed surfer hanging ten, and surfers today still chase that classic, cruisy shape of a log, especially if they're looking to nose ride. Traditional longboards, like the Bing Continental, are over 9' long with a fat single fin in the back. More modern longboards have evolved into lighter weight, high-performance designs. The Stewart Redline, for example, features a 2+1 fin setup, slimmer rails, and rocker in the nose and tail, all of which allows for shortboard-like carving while maintaining the paddlebility of a high-volume surfboard. Another favorite is the Takayama In the Pink, a stable and durable Tuflite longboard ideal for beginners and experts alike. If you're curious about which length and volume will suit your skill level, stop by the shop or give us a call for the lowdown. You'll be hangin' loose in no time.
